I'll caveat this with the fact that I'm strictly a crypto amateur. I have a day job and I can't keep up with every development in such a wide and varied space.
Having said that, this news is probably the most contrary thing to the spirit of crypto that I've ever heard, and the first thing that has shaken my trust in ETH's mission.
Since when are crypto big hitters so compliant with the US government that they'll block a swathe of normal users purely based on geographic location? Since when do decentralised apps even need to know your location or identity?
I accept that there are necessary restrictions on CEXs due to their status straddling the line between CEFI and DEFI. But I'm genuinely shocked and disappointed that the premier Ethereum web wallet is doing this shit now.
Have Vitalik or other big names in the space made a statement about this/recommended a particular web wallet alternative?
