BitGo Expands its Institutional Crypto Offering
The acquisition will complement BitGo’s current custody, trading and settlement capabilities with derivatives, financing, structured products and capital-markets expertise. NYDIG’s institutional trading desk caters to asset managers, hedge funds, corporations, family offices and advanced investors.
According to Reuters, some 30 NYDIG staff members will come with BitGo, as will approximately 250 institutional client relationships. The addition will allow BitGo to add a layer of a tried-and-true institutional trading business to the client base that utilizes the digital-asset infrastructure as a whole.
“Institutions are all looking for a provider that can provide them a holistic service to provide the full lifecycle of digital assets, from custody to trading, to financing, to settlement,” said BitGo CEO and co-founder Mike Belshe.
The move could also serve to retain more client funds and trading activity on BitGo’s platform. Rather than having to work with multiple providers to manage custody, execution, financing and settlement, institutional clients can obtain access to a greater portion of these services from a single crypto infrastructure company.

Derivatives Add a New Layer to BitGo’s Platform
NYDIG’s trading unit has expertise in the trading of derivatives, structured products and financing solutions for sophisticated crypto market participants. Integrating that business with BitGo will help the company expand its product capabilities, built around institutional trading and risk management.
BitGo has been on a trajectory towards a more expansive institutional platform for 2026. The company also unveiled a modular infrastructure platform for banks in May, that comprised stablecoin services, settlement, staking, and trading.
That strategy is now bolstered by the acquisition of an important element, institutional capital-markets capabilities.
NYDIG Shifts Focus to Bitcoin Mining and HPC
The decision to sell the trading business enables NYDIG to focus resources on vertically integrated power generation, as well as Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing data centres.
NYDIG has announced that its development pipeline is over 3 gigawatts, with over 1 gigawatt anticipated to be realized by 2027 and 2028.
The transaction also comes after BitGo’s public-market debut. The firm’s IPO earlier this year sold approximately $213 million worth of stock, and is listed on the NYSE under the symbol: BTGO.
This growth is part of a strategy to create institutional crypto infrastructure beyond just custody and is not limited to a single service, rather it is a spectrum of services. BitGo’s trading business was added to its platform to expand its institutional offering to include custody, trading, derivatives, financing, structured products and settlement.
