Comparing ZK and optimistic rollups

Hey r/ethereum

I am currently in final year of my computer science degree and want my final production project to be based around blockchain technology. Initially my idea was to create a permissioned network on hyperledger fabric that was used to accredit graduate diplomas on the blockchain, and then allow employers to quickly query the blockchain to validate a candidates credentials. I did want to possibly give the option of the diploma certificates being minted into NFT's and sent to students wallets too.

My project tutor however did not think this was a sufficiently difficultly for my final year project: "the initial technologies you mention don’t seem advanced enough in application of sophisticated Software Engineering appropriate for L6. It should not be a simple case of just using a readily available API and plugging it into a front-end."

So based on his feedback I have decided to switch my project. I have decided to compare ZK and optimistic rollups. I plan to build two DEX's, one using zksync and the other using Arbitrum to scale on L2. I want the front end to be the same for both and I can then compare them against each other and against L1 for reference.

Any comments or opinions of the feasibility of this project and much work is actually required?

Thanks.
