Just a personal rant, so don't take it as anything more than that.
We live in the age of information with almost all the knowledge we could ever want at our fingertips, and yet, the loudest voices tend to be the ones who miss the point entirely.
This isn't specific to just the orange coin either; I've observed this in various different arenas of personal interest and it's quite shocking to say the least.
While this post may go mostly unnoticed, I think it's important to be stated: knowing what you don't know can often times be more empowering than going off the little that you do know.
I say this for 2 reasons: 1. The Dunning-Kruger effect is inevitable. I've experienced it many times and still experience it continually - we're all human (most of us anyways). 2. The cypherpunk philosophy is being lost amongst today's Bitcoin community. One can argue that it's already happened. This will inherently cause the greedy voices to drown out the knowledgeable ones. Remember the block size wars?
The space has been flooded by "retail" money - people looking to make a quick buck because they heard NGU. I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with that at all. Just kindly consider that you may not be an expert because you exchanged $25 from your checking account for custodied BTC in your CashApp or CB account.
Conviction in an investment should not come from the returns made or some form of group-think, but rather, the level of understanding one possesses about said investment.
This applies equally, if not more, to the lurking buttcoiners. I get it, you feel like you're calling out a scam, a ponzi, etc., who doesn't want to be in the right side of history? But sadly, almost every single post in that sub is the perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's laughable at first, but then you consider the harm it has on others: on one hand we have vocal critics who don't fundamentally understand the technology they criticise, paired with vocal advocates who base their entire investment thesis on NGU.
All this to say: HODLing gets infinitely easier once you understand why we HODL in the first place. Once you enter the Valley of Despair, you will almost always come out a smarter, more informed person on the other side.
Edit: spelling
