Key Takeaways:

  • Grayscale’s ZCSH has gone public on NYSE Arca with a spot exposure to ZEC.
  • The product provides investors access to Zcash via normal brokerage accounts.
  • ZCSH is the first-ever exchange-traded product dedicated to Zcash.

Grayscale has brought Zcash into the exchange-traded market with the launch of ZCSH on NYSE Arca. The debut turns one of crypto’s longest-running privacy-focused investment vehicles into a publicly traded product designed to track exposure to ZEC.

ZCSH Brings Zcash to the Exchange-Traded Market

The Zcash ETF, created by Grayscale, started trading under the ZCSH ticker on August 25. The company claims it is the first exchange traded product to offer spot exposure to ZEC, the native cryptocurrency of the Zcash network.

The creation is a return to Grayscale’s previous investment vehicle, Zcash, which was launched in 2017. It is now evolved to ZCSH, which is more familiar to eligible investors to access ZEC exposure via a brokerage or investment account.

It is important to investors, however, to note that investment in shares of ZCSH is not an investment in ZEC. The fund is also being structured as an ETP and not as a traditional investment company that is registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940, and Grayscale cautions that the product has a tremendous amount of volatility and risk.

Zcash Combines Bitcoin-Style Scarcity With Optional Privacy

Launched in 2016, Zcash shares several core characteristics with Bitcoin. Its supply is capped at 21 million ZEC, the network uses Proof-of-Work consensus, and its monetary design includes a halving schedule that gradually reduces new issuance. Where Zcash differs is its privacy technology.

Shielded Transactions Add a Different Layer to ZEC

Users can make transparent and shielded transactions using Zcash. Shield transfers use cryptographic design to keep information secure like the sender, recipient, and transaction value while maintaining that the network can verify activity.

The network also enables selective disclosure via viewing keys, which could be used to disclose transaction information to authorized parties when necessary. Grayscale mentioned this new model is part of Zcash’s investment proposition because with AI and advanced analytics, financial data is simpler to track and analyze.

Zcash’s continuous technical progress was also cited. Subsequent upgrades have been Sapling, Orchard and NU5, with the further change to shielded transactions in Ironwood in July 2026.

A New Access Point for ZEC Investors

With the launch of ZCSH, investors can access Zcash without the need to store private keys or manage direct token ownership. The structure will enable exposure to ZEC via conventional brokerage channels, but with the underlying digital asset exposure, Grayscale said.

Nonetheless, the fund is quite risky. Digital assets can be extremely volatile, share prices can move above or below their NAV, and investors may lose part or all of their investment. Zcash has found a new regulated market vehicle in the form of ZCSH, which is now listed on the NYSE Arca exchange.
