Hardware wallets do not store your coins. Crypto is still on blockchain. They just give you safer access to it.

All Cryptocurrencies

A lot of crypto investors believe that when they use hardware wallet, they literally send their crypto into it. Coins have no connection to blockchain or internet, and are safely stored inside hardware wallet that is safe inside some drawer or safe. Well, that's cute, but not true.

Hardware wallets doesn't work like that. It is not suprising people think it, cause it is often oversimplified that "hardware wallets store crypto and make it safe against everyone". Obvious simmilarity would be pendrive that store data inside. Problem is it is bad comparation. If pendrive is destroyed all date is lost, but if hardware wallet is destroyed your crypto is still fine.

Hardware wallets (software wallets also) do NOT store any coins. They are just like key to access those coins. Crypto is always on blockchain, there are different ways of access it. Some safer than others. Hardware wallets are just piece of metal and plastic worth 50$, if it is destroyed your crypto is not lost, still safe on blockchain. You just need to buy new hardware wallet to access it. Only important thing is your seed phrase. Without it you can't access your coins, with it you can access it anywhere in the world. If seed phrase is lost, your coins are lost forever, so always remember to keep it safe. If hardware wallet is lost, you just can buy new one.

If your coins would be simply stored on hardware wallet, you would had no access to them without having this hardware wallet. Also in case of destruction of this hardware wallet, you would have no coins anymore, they would be lost forever. Imagine storing in your drawer "pendrive" with a lot of money, that would be scary. Fortunately as I said coins are always on blockchain, so no problem.

Also since coins are on blockchain if you delete coin from hardware wallet, you don't lose it, it is just like "deleting" games by deleting logo on your destop, no real harm done, one minute of work to get it back. Sometimes you have to "delete" some coin, cause hardware wallets have limit of how many coins you can access at once, but always can get it back with no problem.

TL;DR: Hardware wallets are not like pendrives, they do not store any crypto inside, just let you safely access it. Crypto is always on blockchain. If hardware wallet is lost nothing bad happen, just buy new one, your crypto will still fine there as long as you have your seed phrase.
