With Memorial Day this weekend here in the states, I wanted to raise a glass in memory of all the coins we’ve lost this year.
There was the unlucky fella who lost all his BTC in a boating accident involving his hardware wallet. May they now enrich the whales.
The many users who sent their hard-farmed Reddit moons blindly to Coinbase wallets that could never receive them. Rest well in the inter-wallet abyss.
The people who were scammed out of their doge coin by dudes who promised to kindly update their doge wallets for them. I hope they get bit.
Those who sent BTC investments to a mysterious miner that promised them at least 3 BTC a month in exchange, only to never see their coins again. So long brave satoshis.
And all of the cryptonauts who tried to keep seed phrases safe by storing them only on their phone, only to lose their phone and all access forever. Oof.
Lastly, let’s not forget anyone who did literally any sort of ETH transaction at all and lost most of it to gas fees.
Whether due to scams, mother nature, poor understanding of how wallets work, or generally being gullible, these losses have brought much pain and anguish to the crypto world. But let it be known that many of our losses were not in vain - nay, the coins that are gone forever have increased scarcity and will drive the prices up for all of us. We salute you.
Please feel free to post a tribute to any coins you’ve lost along the way.
