After reading the Braiins article on how ambient temperatures greatly effect watts/power usage by an S19 I thought I should run a test of my own. I have S19XP’s (5 nm chips) and figured temps are even more impacted by heat than regular S19’s. I decided to buy a clamp meter and do some investigating myself. Obviously its summer so I can’t draw in nice cold winter air but below are my summer temp/watts observations:
Keep in mind I run without the stock fans and use the AC infinity fan setup.
Outside temp: S19XP outlet temp: Amps: Watts
52F degrees 63C degrees 12.3 2952
57F degrees 65C degrees 12.6 3024
75F degrees 73C degrees 13.35 3204
84F degrees 82C degrees 14.05 3372
I was surprised to see in the afternoon heat the miner uses over 400 watts more than the cooler morning air to accomplish the same 143 Th/s function. Obviously if you have multiple miners that really adds up. My conclusion is if you are running the ac infinity fans you should be running them at a higher speed to drive down your total watts used, it really adds up. The ac infinity fan setup uses a lot less watts than the stock horrible bitmain fans.
In the winter months I’m imagining some really great numbers with the offset of using the miner exhaust heat to heat my home. WIN WIN Just gotta get through the summer months.
