Natural Gas Flaring for Bitcoin Mining

When I read articles like this, on the goal of reducing natural gas flaring, I wonder how the bitcoin community can help to push bitcoin mining as a way to utilize this wasted energy. Any ideas?

I would think that any major companies producing this waste would have checked into this possibility but maybe not. If not, maybe getting some key information to "the powers that be" could make a difference. Again just looking for ideas on what we as a community can do to push these ideas forward.
