Old Macbook Air - Can/Should I run my own Node?

Hi Bitcoiners,

My old Macbook Air that I purchased in 2014 is past it's prime - not supporting various software updates (Brave, Chrome, Ledger) - so I just bought a new Macbook.

The old Macbook still works fine. It's just not lightning fast anymore, and no longer supports various software updates. I'm writing this post on it, and it's been operating fine like this for almost a year now.

It doesn't have any trade in value to Apple, and I'm not going to sell it.

Feels like the perfect opportunity to give running my own node a shot. Couple questions.

  • Should I?
  • Can I with this old of equipment? Processor is 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory is 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
  • Where do I start?

Not trying to go TOO insanely technical, but I'd like to learn a bit while working through this. I just accepted a job in the Bitcoin industry, so I really want to learn more about the technical side of the Bitcoin network.
