Suggestions for creating an NFT with extra parameters?

Hey, as the title says, I'm trying to code ERC721 tokens that have extra parameters on top of things like owner and symbol, things like minting date, and token status. What I've done so far is just gone into the Openzeppelin code and added in new mappings that match the token ID to the new parameters, (i.e: "mapping(uint256 => uint256) private _tokenStatuses;") but I was wondering if anybody could guide me or had any suggestions on if there is a better (and potentially dynamic) way to do this.
