I get that moons have value and they represent a karma system, but... why?

Could someone help me see how moons improve on Reddit preexisting karma system?

When I was first promoted to set up my reddit wallet I didn't really know why I was doing it. I kept my recovery seed safe and went on my way.

Then I learned more about moons. But I don't see any other subreddit a using a similar system. Why not?

And where does the value come from? Is it purely from the automated market maker on the dex where they are sold?

Getting moons is exciting, but at the same time I'm a little confused as to their purpose.

Basically I need some full blown background on what the heck is going on. Links to other posts or articles is fine if it's already been explained. Just trying to figure out what is going on.
