The Bitcoin base layer is not meant to be fast, and it wouldn't make any sense to try and make it fast. The base layer is robust and incredibly secure, and that's the most important. Fast transactions, smart contracts, NFTs, those innovations are being built at an incredible pace as L2 solutions. L2, or Layer 2, means something built on top of the base layer, but independent from it.
The Lightning Network for example is an L2 solution, which allows virtually unlimited number of transactions per second. L2 solutions enable innovation and experimentation without risking to destabilize the base layer, because they are built independently, just like new cars are built independently from the roads they'll be on. This layered approach means L2 solutions don't risk to introduce bugs in the base layer, and don't compromise the security of the base layer.
The Bitcoin network itself evolves slowly, thoughtfully, but it doesn't mean Bitcoin is outdated, far from it. Anyone arguing otherwise is trying to sell you their shitcoin.
